Carbon Footprint

Carbon Footprint

ok, here is an interesting article i found. It is showing how Good Morning America, a reputable news source, is voicing their concern about the carbon footprints that hamburgers are leaving on the world.
They are saying that in order to process, ship, and make one quarter pounder with cheese, it would cost 26 ounces of oil. The article also went on to say that some countries want to put labels on different food products saying how much carbon was used to make the product.
My issue with this is wouldnt it cost a lot of energy to make the new containers/packaging/wraps for the products...possibly more then you are saving?
Regardless i feel that the new labelling system will become more of a niusance because people wont have an understanding right off the bat.

  1. Honestly, I know everyone is in a frenzy about going green and trying to help the environment but seriously how is this information going to help me as a consumer and what is this going to do except make me feel bad about emiting more carbon emissions? Its just like everything else in todays world, everything has a price, in this case its amount of oil being used for a hamburger, but what about the amount of oil used for bigger, more important things. I agree with dave that this could become a big nuisance for companies and an added expense that many do not want to incur in these tough economic times.
I could care less about how much oil is being consumed to produce one hamburger, if I want a hamburger im going to get a hamburger. If we are so concerned about oil consumption and our carbon footprint, why don't we push for locally sourced initiative or alternate fuels. Even this could cost a small fortune but hey its a start and just something regulatory agencies need to do to make themselves feel important .
